Interior Designers and Falling In Love

We all know that love is a rare occurrence … but when it does happen, oh what a feeling! This is also true of interior designers and their clients. Yes, part of marketing is promoting yourself, but how often do you find that jewel of a client, architect, contractor, and landscaper team? Falling in love is about a teamwork on all sides.

In the old days before the pandemic of only two years ago, we would drive hours to meet, walk through a project, and share our creative ideas with a potential client.

Just like romantic relationships have changed following the introduction of online dating, interior design has changed, too. In some ways “falling in love” has become easier as you can scan through an infinite number of options online. You quickly mark “interested” or “not interested” (whether by swiping left or pinning something to your Pinterest board), but you never actually make a connection.

Clients pine over their Pinterest ideas but the imagery is not really reality…

The real reality is that when you actually make a commitment - whether it’s right or wrong - you’re making a decision and that moves things forward. Mistakes can be made and corrected, but if you remain in the gray area forever you’re missing out.

Liking a picture is simple, whereas understanding the space takes a lot of time. Just how pictures only tell half the story in getting to know a person, they only tell half the story in getting to know a space.

Some of the benefits of the world moving online, however, are the ease with which we can now translate our vision to clients! Here at Donna Livingston Design, we create many digital mood boards and 3D renderings. We’re now able to bring design to a whole new level, and quickly change things.

Find an interior designer that you have chemistry with, whose style you admire, and whose expertise you trust. The right interior designer will help you make decisions and move things forward.

Flawless compatibility is not an easy thing to find, so do your best in “dating” to find the right interior designer for you. And remember, the person on the other end wants to like you just as much as you want to like them.
